EGGSHELL MICROBIOME

A DEEP DIVE INTO AGRITX-F65

CHICKEN + EGG:

THE PROBLEM

BACTERIA AND OTHER PATHOGENS CAN LIVE IN THE INTESTINES OF CHICKENS.

HEALTHY CHICKEN:

The outer shell of the laid egg is covered in healthy bacteria. As the chick hatches, the good bacteria on the shell colonize the chick’s intestine, building a healthier chicken from birth.

UNHEALTHY CHICKEN:

The outer shell of the laid egg is covered with pathogens such as bacteria. This is then passed onto the chick, continuing a cycle of pathogenesis from birth.

THE INDUSTRY TRIES TO STOP TRANSMISSION BY FEEDING HENS PROBIOTICS TO REDUCE PATHOGENS IN THE CYCLE.

Feeding hens probiotics does not always work because the GI tract is already colonized, and out-competition post-colonization is difficult.

THE LIFE OF AN EGG

POULTRY LIFE:

  • The first 20-25% of poultry life is spent in the embryo, and there are currently no interventions post-sanitization and pre-vaccination

  • During this 18-day window, AGRITX technology is targeted to introduce probiotics at the earliest possible time
